The Role:

The Engineering Manager is an integral part of the company’s senior leadership team and serves as the leader of the Manufacturing Engineering and Test Development Departments. This position focuses on developing, implementing, and maximizing the utilization of people, processes, systems and technology for continuous, measurable improvements in every area of the engineering organization.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

You will spend your time:

  • Manage, lead and mentor the manufacturing engineering and test development teams in attaining stated department goals while focusing on professional growth, technical mentoring and development of the department.
  • Develop and/or manage the development and creation of manufacturing instructions (MI) in AutoCAD, MS Word or other necessary programs.
  • Coordinate the acquisition of necessary production fixtures and tools and provide direction to those suppliers as needed.
  • Manage new product introduction (NPI) and design for manufacturability (DFM) activities.
  • Interface with customers and internal customer teams to develop processes that meet the customer’s quality, cost, technical and schedule expectations.
  • Oversee the implementation of internal or customer manufacturing change orders (MCO) and assist the team in processing them as needed.
  • Develop, lead and collaborate with production and support departments to lead major lean activities in areas of quality, throughput and cost reduction.
  • Assist other teams as needed in the troubleshooting of production and quality problems arising during production.
  • Drive root cause issues and corrective actions being implemented to resolve or provide continuous improvements.
  • Use statistical tools to lead quality improvement within the engineering team for products and processes.
  • Develop new or improve current engineering management programs including metrics, performance goals and improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the creation or amendment of engineering policies and processes.
  • Actively participate in management meetings.
  • Participate in capital expenditure discussions and provide guidance on manufacturing and test equipment purchases.
  • Stay current with new electrical testing technologies such as in-circuit test, functional test and device programming.
  • Provide direction to test development engineering in the strategy, design and execution of product testing.
  • Manage production label creation and printing and monitor for advancement in printing technologies.
  • Meet regularly with staff in other departments and locations to assure that corporate level processes and systems are aligned as much as possible.
  • Participate in customer visits, audits, corrective actions, and satisfaction initiatives.
  • Other projects as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Five or more years of experience in electronics environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills including ability to effectively coach and mentor employees at all levels.
  • Self-motivated to operate independently and to impact others around you.
  • Strong communication skills; both written and oral.
  • Understanding of and ability to use continuous improvement tools.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates discretion, confidentiality, independent judgment and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated professional ethics, tact and courtesy in dealing with customers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • This position will be expected to split time between facilities, so frequent travel between RiverSide facilities in Lewiston and Winona is required.
  • Infrequent travel for trainings and/or business needs may be required.
