The Role:

The Purchasing Manager will oversee and direct the activities of the purchasing department.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

You will spend your time:

  • Supervisory Responsibilities: 
    • Hires and manages staff as needed.
    • Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the department.
    • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. 
    • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. 
  • Non-Supervisory Responsibilities: 
    • Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions.
    • Assesses current material availability; reasonably predicts future availability based on the market, delivery systems, and other variables.
    • Negotiates and completes contracts with vendors for optimal cost and delivery times.
    • Reviews purchase orders and contracts for compliance with company and departmental policies.
    • Collaborates with sales, customer service, and logistics departments to maximize efficiency in the purchasing department.
    • Communicates with suppliers to resolve problems that may arise regarding delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale.
    • Sets authorization limits for purchasing staff.
    • Oversees updating and management of ERP system data including lead time, supplier price lists, tariffs, HTS, COO, order parameters and other purchasing execution data.
    • Drafts, explains, and implements instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing and/or contract management.
    • Coordinates sale of surplus component inventory. 
    • Develops and maintains relationships with suppliers.
    • Receives and distributes market condition and material cost reports and analyses.
    • Evaluates and approves conditions for issuing and awarding bids.
    • Resolves grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
    • Maintains and/or implements purchasing and record keeping systems.
    • Acts as a company representative in negotiations with suppliers.
    • Administers the departmental budget.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
  • At least three years of experience in related field required.
  • At least three years of management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven negotiation skills.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Understanding of business and management principles.
  • Thorough understanding of materials and supplies used in the company.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Extensive experience with enterprise resources planning (ERP) tools; Epicor preferred


  • This position will travel between the RiverSide Lewiston and Winona facilities.
  • Infrequent travel for trainings and/or business needs may be required.
